Firefox 2.0.0.7 Released & Flock 1.0 Announced

Firefox 2.0.0.7

Firefox released version 2.0.0.7 as a Fire Drill (Security) release. This security release addresses a severe vulnerability to Firefox for Windows & Mac users who have installed the Quicktime plugin, at minimum all iTunes users. From reading more into this issue in the above link, it seems like a pretty serious one and I am glad the Firefox team responded promptly.

Get Firefox page does not show version 2.0.0.7 yet, but it is available for download via the following links if you would like to go ahead and upgrade to the latest release.

Firefox 2.0.0.7 - Windows

Firefox 2.0.0.7 - Mac OS X

Firefox 2.0.0.7 - Linux

The auto-update should be happening in the next couple of days if you would like to wait to be prompted to update.

Thanks for the head’s up on the Firefox. I just checked for an update in the Help->Check for Upgrade and 2.0.7 was waiting in the wings.

I was an early fan of Flock, while I know some others have slagged it. I like the idea of baking some powerful blogging and image features into the browser rather than using plugins. Will get over there and add my email to the beta download list.

No problem, TD! It looks like it might take a bit to show up in the updates. Get Firefox page now shows 2.0.0.7 now!

I used to use Flock, but I uninstalled it due to a few bugs that hopefully have been worked out by now. It wouldn’t allow me to type a / inside the browser. I’d have to type is elsewhere and then copy and paste it, which was a real pain. Know anything about that?

Tish.. I have my Firefox rtrofitted to my own needs. So that’s what I use primarily. But I love the media bar feature in Flock and I use that to upload pics or browse through Flickr or Photobucket. As you said, I might start using it more with the new release. Time will tell! :-)
Wow.. I’m flattered Tish! You have the kindest words for me and I appreciate it! It’s no wonder yoiu were awarded this award yourself!

Is 2.0.0.7 any less of a resource hog?

  12. 12
#12 K-IntheHouse UNITED STATES Windows XP Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.7 Says:

Hi Kenny, I believe 2.0.0.7 is more of a bug fix. Speaking of resource hog, Firefox has been getting better with every version but most of the time the culprit is a poorly written extension than Firefox itself.

Just to test this theory, create a new profile with no extensions and go for a test drive. You will find how snappy it is. It is the ease of writing extensions and no way to performance test them has led to a misconception by many attributing bad performance to Firefox rather than extension developers.

Having said that, i am looking forward to better performance with Firefox 3! :-)

Thanks for the advice. I suspect its the extensions as well. Hopefully Firefox 3 addresses these issues.
