That's right Kyle.. the performance woes are mostly from extensions. But Firefox is getting better at memory management with every release.

I try to trim mine down but I keep trying new extensions.. :-)

Having a lightweight profile is good.

Firefox 3.0 won't do anything to improve extensions because they are 3rd party. As long as they aren't made by Mozilla, they will be poorly coded and cause memory leaks and such. :(

I generally roll with 10 or less, but since switching to Flock I've noticed there aren't many I can't live without.

You are very welcome, Brown! I do try every one of these extension before I write about them. It's so much fun, isn't it?

Kyle, I'm with you about the slowness. I sometimes think it's a trade-off between performance and functionality. With all these extensions Firefox becomes more than just a web browser. I am hoping Firefox 3 will be better at handling all the extensions i throw at it.

I sometimes reach the 40 mark but I try to keep it around 30. But, I make use of a lightweight profile with 5+ extensions for casual browsing and use a power profile with 30+ for my other needs.

Gah! Why do you do this to me?

Now I have to keep trying different extensions and slow down my browsing. :)

Out of curiosity, how many extensions do you run at one time?

Thanks for the mention :)
