Firefox Extensions: Picks of the Week 08-07-22

This is my first extension pick post since the Firefox 3 release. There are so many new & cool extensions that have come out and let’s look at a few this week.

  • Better Amazon: From Lifehacker, another great Firefox extension that makes shopping at amazon.com a treat. Hights products with Super Saver free shipping in search results, automatically enlarges images, shortens Amazon URLs for easy emailing, collapses unwanted junk in the page, etc.
  • Pluribo: While we are shpping at Amazon, there is another add-on that uses artificial intelligence to analyze the reviews in the product pages and provide you with ‘Cliff-notes’ version of the verdict from fellow shoppers. This could be a real time-saver for comparing reviews on different products when you are short on time. Pluribo helps those who forget our anniversaries yet still get a gift in time. [via Firefox Facts]
  • Dashblog: This add-on lets you grab videos from any page and post it to Tumblr, Twitter, WordPress or Blogger/blogspot. If you are a video blogger, this will be a huge benefit as it even support multiple Blogger accounts.
  • UnMHT: A very cool extension that lets you save pages you are viewing with images and videos as a single file for later reading or restoring. It saves it in teh form of mime HTMl files. It could also save your pages with the tabs you are viewing making this extension your own session saver.
  • FireGestures: An alternative to teh popular Mouse Gestures add-on. FireGestures support five types of gestures: mouse gestures, rocker gestures, wheel gestures, keypress gestures and tab wheel gestures.
  • Smart Bookmarks Bar: If you are into saving real estate in Firefox, you will love this extension. It modifies the bookmark to show just the favicons for the sites bookmarked, saving considerable space.
  • WikiLook: Another tooltip dictionary extension that is elegant to use. Just press the Shift key and mouse over the word to see the meaning from Wikitionary pop up.

How is Firefox 3 treating you? If you haven’t upgraded to Firefox 3, they even released a bug fix 3.0.1 to fix some of the problems and security issues.

Enjoy finding new extensions and I will see you soon with more.

I’ve only recently started using Firefox in the last month or so. I love all of the firefox extensions however, especially since IE didn’t have nearly as many. I am going to have to take a quick look at your past posts and see if I’m missing any others I should have!

I am so glad to have found this site. I am always looking for some advice for what firefox plugins would be good for me. Thanks so much for taking the time to help and review all of these!

Great list of extensions, I particularly like the ‘Smart Bookmarks’ features… as I already have a whole bar edited only to show the favicons, it would be nice to have it done automatically.

I love firefox…ever since my husband introduced it to me a few years ago, I’ve never gone back to IE. These are great plugins – it’s amazing how big the firefox community is to drive this browser to the top! :)

Superman, Larry, it is a pretty cool one.

Sarika, Wikilook is fast becoming my fav one too.

Chelle, welcome to the fun world of Firefox! Hope you found some cool extensions while you are at it.

Kritie, you are absolutely welcome. I do the same by trying out extensions put forth by my peers and friends and I love to share the ones I find here. It is much easier than going through the add-ons repository to find the good ones.
Hope to see you more here. :-)

Rick. I have done the same.. saves a ton of real estate even in a 22″ widescreen!

Software King, some add-ons do tend to slow down Firefox. I do a culling every week to weed out the ones I haven’t touched in a week.

Pluribo looks like a good add for Amazon shopping. Popular products can have hundreds of reviews and it be a reall effort to slog through them all.

    Hi K,

Good to see some more Firefox extensions from you. I think the unMHT one might be good. I’m always looking for ways to read offline. These days I have a 40 minute train ride to and from work….

this is a great list of expansion packs for firefox. hopefully there will be more soon. but there are many add ons, which don’t work for firefox 3 at the moment, so I hope, these versions will be fixed soon.

I have been reading a lot lately about how firefox is so much better than internet explorer…

Could someone explain to me why its security features are so much better? My computer got hacked about 1 year ago and I have been scared ever since and was thinking of switching.
