I was looking to convert some avi files to flash format to publish to web. A colleague showed me this cool free tool that lets you do it painlessly.
DVDVideoSoft.com offers a free tool – Free Video to Flash Converter on their website. It is a 12.2 MB download and once installed just launch the converter.
Free Video to Flash Converter lets you convert *.avi, *.mpeg, *.mpg, *.mp4, *.m4v, *.wmv, *.asf, *.mov, *.qt, *.3gp, *.3g2, *.dvr-ms. *.flv video files to ready for web *.flv and *.swf files.
The interface is pretty simple as well. Just select your add your input files by browsing your computer. Then you can also choose to trim your videos.
Next step is to choose an output folder, output names for your files after the conversion. You could choose to convert to FLV or SWF format.
You are provided with a few Preset quality settings – Normal Quality (320×240, 400Kbit, Mono), High Quality (480×360, 760 Kbit, Stereo), High Definition (1280×720, 2 Mbit, Stereo).
I found using High Quality offered a good balance between size and quality although Normal might also work for you in some cases.
Once the conversion is done, you choose to be shown a HTML example of how to embed the generated files in your web page after conversion.
Another nice option is if you were converting a large file, you can choose to turn off your computer after it is finished with the conversion.
Free Video to Flash Converter is truly free – no spyware, adware or hidden programs in it. Plus it is free for both personal and commercial use.
